Every year, the African International Film Festival (AFRIFF) delivers an energetic, vibrant, and exciting experience. This year’s event is set to take place from 10 to 16 November at the Genesis Deluxe Cinema in Lekki-Epe Way, Lagos.
The AFRIFF started in December 2010. It hosts both local and international filmmakers, celebrities, actors, directors, film buyers, distributors, visual artists, film students, amateurs, film lovers, and the media. The film festival has become a platform for people from across the globe to put the spotlight on the talent and beauty of Africa through film.
“Africa unites” is this year’s AFRIFF theme. It is rooted in the belief that being African is a bond that goes deeper than geography, birth or lineage; this as people of African origin are spread across the world, with Africa also being home to many non-Africans. The mission of the festival is to re-establish Africa as an original home to all and reflect a common and true African identity.
Awards and monetary prizes are also given to categories such as Feature, Documentary, Animation, and Students Short, as well as awards and prizes in Directing, Acting, and Screenplay. Special awards will also feature for the Audience’s choice as well as a Jury award for the outstanding film.
